Sour cream is usually hard to get here in Sicily so when I found it in a Romanian shop, I immediately bought it. I also immediately made Russian varenyky because I love them with sour cream. You need 250 g of flour, 1 egg, a few tablespoons of milk and a bit of salt for the dough. For the filling you need potatoes, butter and onions.
I have a thing for spicy cakes...not spicy in the sense of hot, but with lots of spices, my favorites are cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. The cake which I made today in fact is made with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. The ingredients are: 2 cups of flour; 1 teaspoon baking powder;1 teaspoon baking soda; half a teaspoon each of cloves and cinnamon; 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Mix them all up. Then in another bowl stir together half a cup of oil, ( I used olive oil but you can use any oil you like), 100 grams of powdered brown sugar - YES! It's finally available here in Sicily! Then add two eggs, a bit of raisins, pecans or walnuts, and half a chopped pear. Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ones. Line a small loaf pan with baking paper, and fill the pan with the cake mixture. Add slices of pear on top. Bake in a preheated oven 180° C for about 1 hour.

According to the weatherman, this year we are going to have an early spring. Actually here in Italy it already seems like spring, the sun is shining and the temperature is rising. It's almost summer! I rushed to check my beach wear but found nothing appropriate so I went running - or surfing rather - to the web to look for bathing suits. The online shop that caught my attention is StyleWea fashion platform which works with independent designers from all over the world, and provides unique, exclusive and high quality products. You are sure to find something to meet your needs and taste. They sell dresses, skirts, bags, sweaters, coats, shoes, tops, bottoms, just about anything you can think of. If you're sporty and you are looking for a personal style and originality have a look at these skater dresses tips. As I mentioned earlier, I need new bathing suits. I am a retro girl so I like the old-fashioned kind of swimwear. Here are the ones that caught my eye on StyleWe. Choose yours at retro swimwear.

In case you haven't heard, there is a new debate going on in the UK. No, it's not about Brexit. It's about shoes. Should women be required to wear high heels at work? Apparently in 2015 a lady in London was sent home from work for not wearing high heels. Can you believe it? It's surreal! I would never give in to that. Especially when I remember the torture I went through in my younger days when I was wearing high heels to work. Running for the bus, hopping on the subway, doing all the office errands while my feet were swollen, my ankles almost twisted and my back hurting atrociously. All because of the high heels. It's ok to wear high heels for an elegant occasion, for a party, a dinner or night out but....keeping them on all day at work? They must be kidding! Why don't they (the men who sent the lady home) try standing all day in the office wearing high heels? If your feet are suffering, you will not be able to concentrate on your work, or on anything for that matter, so my advice is: wear comfortable shoes, especially when you know you're going to be on your feet a lot. I found the perfect ones at FSJ Shoes. Their shoes are comfortable, gorgeous, stylish and affordable. FSJ was launched in 1998. The company is known for its quality and high standard of crafts. It sells to clients in the United States and all over the world. The mission of FSJ is "to help women realize their dream of fashion and pursuit of quality". Just what we women want. When it comes to shoes, I am all for comfort and wearability. I want shoes that I can walk in without worrying that they could hurt any minute. The kind of shoes that make you feel you are not wearing any shoes at all, that's how comfortable they are. I am thrilled to introduce to you some of my favorites from FSJ shoes. In line with my taste and my wish for comfortable and relaxing shoes, I picked these absolutely stylish and attractive vintage Women's Oxfords and Brogues.
Just like Baby in Dirty Dancing, you can have the time of
your life by enrolling at Cape Studies, the only school in Africa to have been
nominated by Study Travel as one of the top 5 schools of languages in the Southern Hemisphere.
Cape Studies is an English language school founded in 1995. The distinguishing feature of this school is its small classes
– no more than 8 students per teacher. This is a very important feature because
it means the teacher can concentrate on individual students, giving them all
the attention they need in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Another particular feature of the school is its location,
Green Point, a safe and characteristic neighborhood. The school is set in a
Victorian house and from each classroom you can rest your eyes upon the
beautiful greenery of the garden.
What is interesting about this school is its infinite number
of extracurricular activities. There is something to do for everyone, you will never have a dull moment. Cape
Studies, as you might have guessed is in Cape Town, South Africa.
Cape Town also known as the Mother City, is one of the most
beautiful cities in the world. It’s surrounded by a mountain range, and cozily
situated between two oceans – the Atlantic and the Indian.
A city so rich in heritage and traditions, arts and culture,
and most of all, diversity (many people and cultures come together in Cape
Town) that you will always find something new to explore.
Speaking about exploring, if you want to get your adrenalin
going, here is what the school can arrange for you: a face-to-face meeting with
the Great White, the most fearsome predator of the sea! This is something even
the faint-hearted will not want to miss. A selfie with this shark is priceless!
If you want something adventurous, but on land, and you like animals, then you can ask the school to book you an unforgettable wildlife
safari. Here you will be able to view a wide range of African animals, birds
and perhaps leopards, elephants, rhinos, buffalos and the king of the jungle,
his majesty the lion. If you are more of a nature lover, then Cape Studies
has just the right extracurricular activity for you: a visit to the top of
Table Mountain (you can get there by cable car or walk up, if you’re fit
enough). You will be mesmerized by the view from the top; the city, its harbor
and beaches make for a beautiful postcard.
Another unforgettable experience is a visit to the Cape of
Good Hope (remember Jules Verne’s “The
children of Capt. Grant”?), the Fairest Cape in all the world”! Here is where
the two oceans meet. If you go to Boulders Beach you can have a delightful swim
with the penguins. Can you ask for more?
Other exciting activities are trips to the vineyards, where
wine-lovers can taste the world famous wine of South Africa.
If you‘re into sports, you will be thrilled to know that
Cape Town offers an enormous choice of sport activities kite surfing, wake
boarding, surfing, golf, hikes, climbing, etc.
After all this work out, what you need is a nice, relaxing
evening like a cocktail bar, jazz pub, beach bar or karaoke bar. Lots of Latin
dancing for the aspiring Fred Astaires and Ginger Rogers.
Last but not least, you can shop to your heart’s delight in
Cape Town, either at the V&A Waterfront or at Canal Walk, the biggest
shopping center in the Southern Hemisphere.
Tired of looking out only for your own interest? Well, Cape
Studies has invested in a project called Helping Hands, which sets it apart
from other language schools.
Helping Hands is an initiative formed by volunteers who come
to South Africa willing to do some good and help the impoverished communities.
They improve their knowledge of the English language while helping needy
people. This is studying with a difference! www.CapeStudies.com
