VARENYKY

Sour cream is usually hard to get here in Sicily so when I found it in a Romanian shop, I immediately bought it. I also immediately made Russian varenyky because I love them with sour cream.

You need 250 g of flour, 1 egg, a few tablespoons of milk and a bit of salt for the dough.

For the filling you need potatoes, butter and onions.

  1. Francesca, Varenyky are just like or very similar to Polish Pierogi which we love. We haven't had anything like them since we moved down here to East Tennessee from Chicago almost 8 years ago! We like ours topped with bacon or filled with ground meat and potatoes. Yum! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  4. They are pierogies to me here in the U.S. I live in a Polish neighborhood and they are very popular here. I like mine stuffed with potato and onion and topped with sour cream. Yes, you are right. That is the best way to eat them.
